It’s official, the mantle to the iconic role of Chewbacca been passed down from Peter Mayhew to Joonas Suotamo.

For almost 40 years, Peter Mayhew has played Chewbacca in every Star Wars film the character appeared in, including four with Harrison Ford as Han Solo. In 2015’s The Force Awakens, due to issues with his legs, Lucasfilm made the decision to bring back Mayhew, along with a new actor for the more physical scenes. You can see Joonas in the now famous “Chewie we’re home.” moment that sent Star Wars fans into a frenzy with the release of the trailer.

Filming has now begun on the Han Solo stand alone film, and the Star Wars official page posted an image yesterday of Suotamo along with the new Solo Alden Ehrenreich, Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, and Woody Harrelson. Joonas took to his Twitter and and wrote a note to fans explaining his feeling on inheriting the role of everyone’s favourite wookie.

What do you Harrison Ford fans think of Ehrenreich’s casting?

“…Chewbacca is one of the most iconic characters in the history of film, and Peter’s development and portrayal of this beloved Wookie has spread so much joy around the globe,” Suotamo wrote on his Twitter after the casting was announced. “Peter’s guidance and kindness have been invaluable gifts which warmed my spirit and prepared me for this journey. I aspire to make Peter proud and bring Star Wars fans the Chewie they know and love. See you in a galaxy far far away. *Wookie fist bump.*”
